The purpose of Bridal Showers

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

Brides are presented with gifts from friends and family and bridal showers are held for this purpose. The origin of Bridal showers were in Europe where poor families were helped to make a dowry for their daughters by friends and relatives who brought gifts to a bridal shower. The modern bridal shower has become a North American tradition.

The maid of honor usually hosts bridal showers and all female friends and relatives are invited to shower gifts on the bride. The Bridal shower is held a week or two days before the wedding depending on the convenience of the guests. All who are invited for the wedding are generally invited for the bridal shower. Themed bridal showers have become the order of the day to make gift giving easy and to add a certain uniqueness to the party. Bridal showers are parties where a bride receives gifts before she is given away.
